Counseling

In the therapy space, i value creating a safer space for you to access your most authentic self. The relational experience between us is present just as much as the dynamics you call awareness to in sessions, and my style as a therapist is to call attention to that. My goal is through the work of our relationship, you are able to identify and pursue what is most valuable and important to your life. This may include reworking ideas about how you see yourself, others and the world. There are a few important things to know about working with me:

1. I practice from the position that our thoughts are part of our experience. Thoughts can become imprints of our experiences and we can outgrow/evolve out of them over time without realizing it.

2. Therapy is a space to explore how you feel, think and interpret the world. How that happens may vary from person to person, I am open to sharing various approaches for your consideration and talk about how I work with your presenting needs.

3. Structure in sessions is sometimes necessary to create predictability and contribute to signs of safety. This could mean I offer you choice in how we work together, the way we use the time in our session, and may include practices for us to start or end our time together.

4. I can share resources, help you find new providers and create advocacy in your health care experience. If you have other providers involved in your care, I hope you could benefit from provider collaboration and exploration for what that could look like for your care.

5. My humanness shows up in the therapy space too. It's part of what makes therapy such a unique experience. This means there are times where we meet the human experience of life together, where there is emotional exchange, reaction or suprise during our time together. My hope is to offer acknowledgement and, if necessary, repair in navigating that experience for you.

6. Therapy doesn't have all of the answers. There may be times where we can't access certainty or know what is going to happen, sitting in that can be uncomfortable and unfamiliar thing to do. The goal is to create a space where uncertainty can live along side of the other parts of our lives, to slow down and allow life to be experienced.
